How to Add Rank Images in vBulletin 4.x.x

This tutorial will guide you through the process of adding our rank images to your vBulletin 4.0 powered forum.

1. Download the Image Rank Set you wish to use from our selection.
2. You will need to uncompress them and upload them in to your images/ranks directory. This can be done via FTP or cPanel, both achieve the same result.
3. Once you have followed the above procedure then you are ready to configure vBulletin to use them. In this example we are setting them up for the Administrator Group only, if you have other usergroups you will need to set these up before following the next step.
4. Login to your AdminCP > User Ranks > Add New User Rank (screenshot shown below for setting up Administrator Group)
5. Now the following settings is how we have setup the rank images.
  • "Number of times to repeat rank:" = 1 (You only need to set this to a value of one for Image Ranks, if you use Rank Pips then it would be different)
  • "Usergroup:" = Administrators (Set this to the Usergroup you wish add the associated rank image)
  • "Minimum Posts" = 1 (This value is entirely up to you, a new vBulletin Installation will require low posting values)
  • "Stack Rank" = No (This is not required and causes excessive bandwidth usage)
  • "Display Type" = Always (This should only be set different, if you wish to use the 'If Displaygroup' method is required)
  • "User Rank File Path = /images/ranks/admin.png (this only needs to be changed per rank type, e.g Banned, Member, Donator, etc.)
  • "OR you may enter text HTML is allowed" = LEAVE FIELD BLANK (Only use if you do not want to use rank images, it is classed as an override)

6. Go to Maintenance > Update Countters > Update User Titles and Ranks - You will need to perform this operation to complete the installation of all your new rank images. Only do this after you have completely finished setting up all Usergroups as above. Failure to perform this may lead to some rank images not showing on your forums.
