You will probably trail many forums for this answer, but this method we have tried and tested ourselves and it is working perfectly on a large network of PC's and other network devices. If you been following tutorials that involve just setting up the router then you maybe lucky to get the ports open, but this is a 'hit and miss' affair depending on your routers firmware.
Firstly, lets setup the router.
Login to your Linksys WRT160N by pointing your browser at http://192.168.1.1
Now, click on Applications & Gaming Tab
Click on the Single Port Forwarding and enter the following:
1st line Application Name: Xbox1
External Port: 88
Internal Port: 88
Protocol: BOTH
To IP Address: 192.168.1.20
Tick: Enable
2nd line Application Name: Xbox1
External Port: 3074
Internal Port: 3074
Protocol: BOTH
To IP Address: 192.168.1.20
Tick: Enable
Click 'Save' to save all your settings for Single Port Forwarding. Now, click on the Administration Tab.
Look for UPNP, and set to Disable, then save your settings.
Your router is now configured correctly for your Xbox 360,
Setting up Your Xbox 360
Firstly, we need to change the way the Xbox connects to the router, most people tend to have it set to the default dynamic assigned IP address, but we need to change this to static, otherwise the ports open in the router will fail.
Here's what we need to assign our Static IP Address.
IP Address: 192.168.1.20
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
Now, we need to assign our Primary & Secondary DNS addresses.
Primary DNS: 4.2.2.2
Secondary DNS: 192.168.1.1
Save settings and reboot your Xbox.
Your connection now to Xbox Live is fully open thru your Linksys Router! Happy gaming!
